Alyssa Campanella of Los Angeles topped a field of 51 beauty queens to take the title Sunday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Campanella won after strutting across the stage in a blue bikini with white polka dots and a dark turquoise evening gown with beading on its top.

She also answered a question about legalizing marijuana by saying she didn’t think it should be fully legalized but it should be available to those who need it for medical purposes.

Miss Tennessee Ashley Durham was the first runner-up.

Contestants from Alabama and Texas placed third and fourth.

Clarence Clemons, 69, was considered a major influence for Bruce Springsteen and played with him for decades. Springsteen said Clemons lived a wonderful life in a statement.

“He carried within him a love of people that made them love him,” he said. “He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage.”

Springsteen called Clemons a great friend and partner.

Clemons was called the “Big Man” because he was 6-foot-5-inch and 270-plus pounds. Perhaps built more for football than the sax.

But play the sax he did. And his solos became a signature sound for the E Street Band on many key songs, including “Jungleland,” a solo he spent 16 hours perfecting, and “Born To Run,” Newscore reported.

In recent years, Clemons had been slowed by health woes. He endured major spinal surgery in January 2010 and, at the 2009 Super Bowl, Clemons rose from a wheelchair to perform with Springsteen after double knee replacement surgery.

But his health seemed to be improving. In May, he performed with Lady G sax. Goodbye Big Man,” tweeted actor Rob Lowe.

An original member — and the oldest member — of the E Street Band, Clemons also performed with the Grateful Dead, the Jerry Garcia Band, and Ringo Starr’s All Star Band. He recorded with a wide range of artists including Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison and Jackson Browne. He also had his own band called the Temple of Soul.

The stage “always feels like home. It’s where I belong,” Clemons, a former youth counselor, said after performing at a Hard Rock Cafe benefit for Home Safe, a children’s charity, in 2010.

Born in Norfolk, Va., Clemons was the grandson of a Baptist minister and began playing the saxophone when he was 9.

“Nobody played instruments in my family. My father got that bug and said he wants his son to play saxophone. I wanted an electric train for Christmas, but he got me a saxophone. I flipped out,” he said in a 1989 interview with the AP.

The break with Springsteen and the E Street Band didn’t end his relationship with either Springsteen or the rest of the band members, nor would it turn out to be permanent. By 1999 they were back together for a reunion tour and the release of “The Rising.”

But the years took a toll on Clemons’ body, and he had to play through the pain of surgeries and other health woes.

“It takes a village to run the Big Man — a village of doctors,” Clemons told The Associated Press in a phone interview in 2010. “I’m starting to feel better; I’m moving around a lot better.”

He published a memoir, “Big Man: Real Life and Tall Tales,” in 2009 and continued to perform.

He is the second member of the E Street Band to pass away: In 2008, Danny Federici, the keyboardist for the band, died at age 58 of melanoma.

Actress Christina Fulton made her emotional comments as she left the Los Angeles hospital where her 20-year-old son is being treated, TMZ reported Thursday.

She said, “My son is in trouble, he’s in the hospital right now and he’s under some really good care so that makes me very happy, but I’m pretty p*ss*d off because his father, um, he’s affected by his father and that’s why he’s in that hospital.”

Weston Cage was taken to the hospital Tuesday by his famous father after an alleged violent altercation at Hollywood venue The Farmer’s Kitchen.

The younger Cage, a member of metal band Eyes of Noctum, allegedly “freaked out” and attacked his trainer after being told he could not eat an item on the menu, according to sources cited by the showbiz website.

The trainer put Cage on the floor, but the singer got up and continued to act bizarrely until police arrived and handcuffed him.

In April the 47-year-old Hollywood actor made headlines himself when he was arrested in New Orleans after a public argument with wife Alice Kim — mother of his other son, Kal-El, aged five.

According to Paula Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), which also operates Miss USA, these “topics are very relevant and in the news.”

Others wonder if MUO is just trying to stoke a Carrie Prejean-style controversy in the days preceding its June 19 live telecast.

“The girls are scared to death. They witnessed with Carrie Prejean how a firestorm can create a road kill, and nobody wants to be part of a situation like that again,” said Keith Lewis, who was embroiled in the Prejean saga in 2009, and is now the executive state pageant director for California, New York and New Hampshire. “The girls are concerned that there is a right or wrong answer. Polarizing questions often create a situation where you suffer … if you agree, and if you do not. The girls need to answer in a way that brings them to a common ground.”

Carrie Prejean was representing California in the 2009 Miss USA pageant when she was asked a question about gay marriage during the live telecast. “I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,” she said. “No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”

Prejean came in second, and told FoxNews.com that she thought her answer cost her the crown. Later, after nude photos were published, she lost her Miss California sash and sued the Miss California organization, headed by Keith Lewis. The suit was later dropped.

So are questions regarding evolution and nudity relevant to a beauty pageant, or just controversy bait?

“The pageant officials are intimidating contestants into answering questions a certain way that are deemed ‘politically correct’ while discriminating against their own belief and opinions,” says publicist Angie Meyer, who has worked with the Miss USA organization. “The Miss USA organization is choosing topics that are not only controversial, but intimidating.”

Another factor that could influence how contestants answer is the makeup of the crowd.

MUO has given away a significant amount of free tickets to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to attend the live telecast. HRC are prominent champions for the legalization of gay marriage, the very topic that sparked the Prejean pandemonium two years ago.

The organization happens to be holding its leadership summit in Las Vegas on the same weekend, a source told Pop Tarts.

According to Meyer, the presence of a large contingent of HRC members in the crowd alone could be intimidating for the more conservative contestants if a question similar Prejean’s is raised.

Miss Maine USA’s Executive Director Mackenzie Davis disagrees, saying that the HRC’s attendance is not in any way unfair as “Miss USA is a spokesperson for the nation, and should not be intimidated by any organization.”

But Lewis says contestants’ answers, and audience reaction, could impact whether or not they are selected as a semi-finalist in the high profile competition because for the first time in the pageant’s 59-year history, the viewing public plays a role in deciding one of the semifinalists by voting for their favorites online.

“These answers could absolutely influence the final results, a girl could get into the top15 just by saying something that gets a massive amount of attention,” Lewis said. “But I do think these are important questions, and it is important that the contestants know how to maneuver through these topics.”

First, Shania Twain fell down and went boom.

On her way out to present the big buckle for Male Video of the Year, Twain slipped and fell right on her rear end. The total pro popped back up, mouthed “I’m okay” and the show did go on.

Maybe she was shocked by the undies being thrown onstage at Kid Rock as he introduced her?

Speaking of undies, Sheryl Crow’s almost stole the show.

Crow wore a short, white skirt and sat on a stool to sing “Collide” alongside host Kid Rock. She briefly flashed the camera as she stood up.

It happened in a blink of the eye, but in the age of DVRs, the moment went viral on Twitter, something Crow acknowledged about an hour later when she and Sara Evans presented an award.

“Well, at least you were wearing underwear,” Evans told Crow.

“I was wearing underwear because I’m good, clean, wholesome family fun,” Crow joked.

The night’s other big shocker? Justin Bieber won a CMT award, taking home a belt buckle for best collaboration with Rascal Flatts on “That Should Be Me.”

Yes, that Justin Bieber.

Very strange.

Now to the other stuff.

Taylor Swift won the night’s biggest award, video of the year, for her song “Mine.” Lambert took female video of the year for “The House That Built Me,” the life-changing song that’s earned her a Grammy and the major country awards already. And Lambert’s new husband, Blake Shelton, was the night’s only multiple winner.

Swift, who won the fan-voted entertainer of the year award at the Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this year, joined the show via live video uplink from Wisconsin where she’s on tour.

“I wish I could be there, but I’m hanging out with 15,000 of my closest friends in Milwaukee,” Swift said as frenzied fans screamed in the background.

Shelton and Lambert also weren’t able to make it.

Swift did join Shania Twain for their pre-recorded faux movie trailer recreating “Thelma & Louise” that included guest appearances by Donald Trump and Kenny Rogers. Justin Bieber induced tears from teenagers as he walked the red carpet with Rascal Flatts. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and “Dancing With the Stars” champion Hines Ward wore cowboy boots and shook his hips on stage.

Lady A turned in one of the night’s most interesting performances. The trio opened with its record-setting single “Just a Kiss” before singer Charles Kelley jumped on the drums as the band morphed into Prince’s “Kiss.”

Wynonna Judd put Kid Rock in his place and taught him a little something about country on a duet of his “Hell, Yes, I’m Country.”

Jason Aldean, who was shut out after earning a leading four nominations, topped off the night with a surprise version of his hip hop-infused hit “Dirt Road Anthem” with rapper Ludacris. It was a perfect end to a show that thrived on unlikely pairings.

Kid Rock, hosting for the second year, thought the song was a great illustration of where country is going.

“I’ve said this before: Country and hip hop aren’t that far apart in spirit if you break it down,” he said after the show. “They’re both blues music.”

Shelton, who appeared via video uplink from the set of his reality contest show “The Voice,” won male video of the year for “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking” and best Web video for “Kiss My Country Ass.” Sugarland kicked off the night with the first win, taking duo video of the year for “Stuck Like Glue.”

Lady Antebellum won group video of the year for “Hello World.” The Band Perry won breakthrough video for “If I Die Young.” Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown won best CMT performance of the year for “Margaritaville.”

Gaga, who was honored with the Fashion Icon Award at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards gala, threw an after-party at the Standard Hotel with V magazine editor Stephen Gan and designer Nicola Formichetti.

She was serenaded by soul legend Patti LaBelle, who sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in front of Gerard Butler, Karolina Kurkova, Prabal Gurung, Liv Tyler,Gaga’s parents and her ex Luc Carl, with whom she seemed friendly all evening.

Later during the night, sources said Gaga was coming downstairs from the roof to The Top when a fan took a picture of her with his phone.

A spy told us, “One of her over-protective security guards started roughing him up. He pushed the guy up the stairs, grabbed his phone and threw it, then dragged him back up onto the roof.”

Upon seeing the scuffle, our spy said, Gaga told her guard, “What are you doing? Leave him alone.” The source added that Gaga, “looked embarrassed and shook her head.” A Gaga rep didn’t get back to us and an event rep had no comment.

Meanwhile, one guest fell in the pool in his tuxedo, and by 3 a.m. Nicky Hilton was “looking totally wasted,” a witness said. “She was dancing like crazy, stumbling and twirling around, and tried to drag [Theory designer] Olivier Theyskens over to dance with her. Olivier pretended to dance, then he blew her off and returned to his friends.”

Hilton “kept putting her clutch purse down and forgetting where she’d left it, then getting angry thinking somebody had taken it,” the source added. She was also spotted “crawling around on the floor looking for something” at about 4 a.m.

A rep for Hilton said, “These events have been exaggerated. Nicky panicked when she misplaced her purse, but thankfully found it.” Despite the antics, a grateful Gaga was in tears after LaBelle’s performance, telling Gan, “All you need to do now to top this is to bring Luther Vandross [back].”
